Transporters in Kashmir Call for Valley-Wide "Chakka Jam" Protest

Transporters across Kashmir have announced a valley-wide "chakka jam" protest on Monday to express their opposition to the expansion of Smart City bus services into districts.

Reason Behind the Protest:

  • Introduction of 200 additional buses to extend services beyond Srinagar
  • Expansion of services to areas such as Pulwama, Kangan, Sopore, and other districts

According to Shabir Ahmad Matta, president of the All J&K Transporters' Welfare Association, the agitation was triggered by the Government's plan to introduce 200 more Smart City buses.

"A few days ago, Transport Minister said that 200 more Smart City buses are coming. We are against that. The buses already operating in Srinagar-we oppose them, and more should not be introduced," Matta said.

Impact of the Protest:

The association has urged the public to make necessary arrangements in advance, cautioning that transport services across the Valley would remain suspended.

  • Transport services across the Valley will remain suspended
  • The Government will be held responsible for any inconvenience faced by commuters

In a stern warning, Matta said, "The responsibility will lie with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah if people face difficulties."

Future Course of Action:

The future course of action will be decided after the strike, Matta said.

Call for Chakka Jam:

Monday has been declared a day of protest, with transporters calling on the public to participate in the "chakka jam" agitation.
