Delhi Resident, Ghaziabad Man Arrested for Duping People in Fictitious Real Estate Scheme

A joint operation by Delhi and Ghaziabad police has led to the arrest of two individuals accused of duping people in a fictitious real estate development scheme.

The accused, a 60-year-old resident of Gautam Nagar in Delhi and a 40-year-old from Brij Vihar in Ghaziabad, had formed a shell firm to dupe people into investing in their plans.

  • Police said the duo showed the complainant two land parcels in Silokhra and Vaishali, Ghaziabad, claiming they were upcoming real estate projects.
  • The lands were owned by a deceased religious figure, with ashrams built on them.
  • The Silokhra property alone has a market value of at least ₹3,500 crore and is currently under the control of the Haryana government.

The accused had forged documents to show the victim that both land parcels belonged to them, promising him sale rights of 50 lakh square feet for ₹450 crore after developing them into commercial projects.

However, they made him pay ₹5.4 crore in installments without entering into any agreement for handing over the sale rights.

On April 15, a complaint was filed, leading to the registration of an FIR against the suspects for cheating and forgery at Sector 40 police station. The case was handed over to the Economic Offences Wing for investigation.

The duo was produced before a city court on Friday and taken into four-day police remand for detailed interrogation.
