ED Arrests Businessman and Kolkata Police DCP in Land-Grabbing Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested several individuals in a high-profile land-grabbing case, which has shed light on a complex web of alleged extortion and money laundering.
Allegations Against Jay S Kamdar
On April 20, the ED arrested Jay S Kamdar, the managing director of Sun Enterprise, over allegations of illegal transactions worth crores in the case. According to ED sources, Kamdar is accused of illegally transacting around Rs 1,100 crore through shell companies.
Arrest of Santanu Sinha Biswas
On May 14, the ED arrested Santanu Sinha Biswas, Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, who is allegedly linked to the same case.
The Alleged Nexus
- The three accused individuals are allegedly linked in an extortion and land-grabbing case.
- The ED is trying to establish a money trail to unearth the alleged nexus.
- Kamdar and Sona Pappu are accused of money laundering.
- DCP Biswas is accused of patronising both and ensuring that no action was taken against them.
Sona Pappu's History
Sona Pappu, one of the accused individuals, has a history of run-ins with the law. In February, bombs were thrown, bullets were fired, and stones were hurled as two rival groups clashed on Kankulia Road in the Golpark area.

In the aftermath of the violence, over 100 youths, allegedly led by Sona Pappu, stormed and attacked resident Bappi Haldar and his supporters, who fought back in retaliation.
