Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Thuringia Minister-President Mario Voigt and discussed cooperation in urban infrastructure, digital governance, skill development, sustainability and technology.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday held talks with Mario Voigt, Minister-President of the German state of Thuringia, and a visiting delegation at the Delhi Secretariat, with discussions focusing on expanding cooperation in areas ranging from urban infrastructure and digital governance to skill development and environmental technologies.
The meeting explored opportunities for collaboration between Delhi and Thuringia in smart urban development, sustainable infrastructure, innovation, education and workforce development.
According to officials, the discussions also covered mobility solutions, water management, environmental technologies and talent mobility, sectors that have emerged as key priorities for both India and Germany amid growing urbanisation and technological transformation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the interaction as productive and said Delhi was keen to strengthen partnerships that contribute to innovation, sustainability and human development. She noted that the city could benefit from global best practices in areas such as urban planning, digital governance and skill development.
The meeting comes at a time when India and Germany are deepening cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, technology, green energy, manufacturing and education. Germany is among India's largest trading partners in Europe and has been actively involved in initiatives related to clean energy, sustainable development and vocational training.
Thuringia, located in central Germany, is known for its strengths in advanced manufacturing, engineering, research and technology-driven industries. Officials said there is significant potential for collaboration between institutions in Delhi and Thuringia, particularly in workforce training, innovation ecosystems and sustainable urban solutions.
The discussions also focused on talent development and mobility, reflecting growing interest among German states in engaging with India's skilled workforce. Germany has in recent years expanded pathways for skilled professionals in sectors facing labour shortages, while India has sought greater international opportunities for its workforce.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India and Germany have strengthened bilateral ties through regular high-level engagements and cooperation across economic and strategic sectors. Delhi officials said the national capital is committed to contributing to this broader partnership by fostering exchanges in innovation, sustainability, education and technology.
The meeting is expected to pave the way for further engagement between Delhi and Thuringia, with both sides expressing interest in exploring mutually beneficial partnerships in the years ahead.
