Bijapur MLA Threatens Protests over Proposed Projects
Basangouda Patil Yatnal, the MLA from Bijapur, has warned the Karnataka government of intense protests if it fails to scrap three proposed projects at the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
- Sharavathi Pumped Storage Project
- Bidadi Township Project
- Anekal Cricket Stadium Project
Yatnal describes the Bidadi Township project as a "death warrant for farmers" and the Sharavathi Pumped Storage project as a threat to the Western Ghats, an ecologically sensitive region.
Accusing the Congress government of prioritizing real estate and capitalist interests over farmers' rights, Yatnal emphasized that the government's decision to acquire nearly 6,500 acres of fertile land for residential purposes is irrational.
Yatnal's Concerns:
- Acquisition of highly fertile and irrigated agricultural land for residential purposes
- Displacement of prosperous farmers in Bidadi
- Lack of long-term planning and vision in the government's decision-making process
The MLA urged the government to reconsider its decision and protect the interests of farmers in the region.
