Hyderabad to Pune to Mumbai High-Speed Rail Corridor Project Update

The proposed Hyderabad–Pune–Mumbai high-speed rail corridor is one step closer to becoming a reality, with railway officials informing the state government that the detailed project report (DPR) has been completed.

  • The proposed high-speed rail corridor spans approximately 671 km.
  • Nearly 93 km of land acquisition is required within the state for the project.
  • The Hyderabad–Pune–Mumbai corridor is one of three high-speed rail corridors announced by the Centre in the Union Budget 2026-27, connecting Hyderabad with Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

Review Meeting Highlights

During a review meeting conducted by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, officials from various departments and railway authorities shared updates on the project.

  • The Chief Secretary directed officials to prepare proposals in coordination with the state government and Union railway ministry.
  • Officials were instructed to work closely in preparing project reports and implementing the projects.
  • Land acquisition, connectivity, infrastructure development, and other project-related issues were also discussed.

Land Acquisition Requirements

Railway officials informed the meeting that apart from the Hyderabad–Pune–Mumbai corridor, around 123 km of land acquisition would be required for the Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Chennai corridors.

Some land would also be required in Kokapet and Shamshabad for establishing railway depots.

Government Support

The Chief Secretary directed officials from the roads and buildings department, HMDA, and GMR Hyderabad Airport to coordinate with railway project authorities and extend full support for the implementation of the high-speed rail projects.
