Deadline Set for Devadula Project Completion
Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has announced a deadline of December 31, 2027, for the completion of the Devadula project in Telangana.

- Acreage: 5.57 lakh acres across 10 districts
Progress and Challenges
The project, originally launched in 2004-05 at an estimated cost of Rs 6,016 crore, has seen significant escalations in construction costs, GST revisions, land acquisition compensation, electricity charges, inflation, revised designs, and additional works.
- Physical Progress: 87.70 percent complete
- Remaining Works: Rs 3,978 crore required to complete
- Land Acquisition: 34,622 acres required, with 31,963 acres already acquired and 2,659 acres pending
Minister's Instructions
The minister has instructed officials to:
- Move pending land acquisition cases to the token stage
- Expedite the award and compensation disbursal process
Impact of Urbanisation
Nearly 39,651 acres proposed under the ayacut have undergone rapid urbanisation in certain stretches and are being considered for deletion from the proposed command area after detailed survey verification.
