The proposal for the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township project at Bidadi has come under intense scrutiny, prompting Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to accept a public debate challenge from Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy.

Understanding the Bidadi Township Project

  • Pitched as 'AI city', the Bidadi Township project is expected to cover around 7,500 acres of land.
  • The project has been met with resistance from the JD(S) and a section of farmers unwilling to part with their land.

Meeting with Farmer Representatives

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar held a meeting with farmer representatives from Bidadi regarding the project.

Shivakumar assured the farmers that they will be paid Rs 2.5 crore per acre for their land.

Project Details and Funding

  • The project has received clearance from the HUDCO Board for Rs 12,000 crore.
  • The government will bear an expense of around Rs 5 crore per acre to provide all amenities to the project.

Government's Commitment

As per Shivakumar, the government is committed to ensuring that farmers are fairly compensated for their land.

Shivakumar's Statement: "Rs 12,000 crore has been cleared by the HUDCO Board for the project," he said, adding that the government will bear an expense of around Rs 5 crore per acre to provide all amenities.
