Argentine football star Lionel Messi's real estate firm has bought a long-shuttered building in Barcelona, expanding the player's investments in the city.
Edificio Rostower Socimi, Messi's real estate investment trust, has acquired the building formerly known as the Via Wagner shopping center for €11.5 million ($13.5 million) from investment fund Santomera Bay, according to a statement from the seller Tuesday.
The 4,000 square meter (43,000 square feet) building has been closed since 1993, Santomera said, adding that Rostower will do a complete renovation and put it up for rent. A press officer for Messi did not respond to a request for comment.
Santomera Bay is the family office of Spanish businessman Alejandro Alcaraz. It bought Via Wagner, located in Barcelona's Turó Park, in 2025.
Messi, who plays for Inter Miami and is widely considered the best footballer of all time, listed Rostower in 2025 with a valuation of €223 million on a small Spanish exchange called Portfolio. The listing has almost no liquidity, which means its market capitalization has barely changed.
The company also owns mostly hotels, parkings, and office buildings. Some of its properties include the MiM Hotels — with operations in Ibiza and Mallorca, among other cities.
