BJP MP Jagadish Shettar Takes Up Delayed Land Acquisition for Belagavi-Kittur-Hubballi Railway Line

BJP MP Jagadish Shettar has announced that he will take up the issue of delayed land acquisition for the new Belagavi-Kittur-Hubballi railway line with the State government.

  • MP Shettar has already discussed the issue with officials of the district administration and will make efforts to draw the State government's attention to expedite the process.
  • The Belagavi-Kittur-Dharwad new railway line project has been delayed due to non-transfer of required land from the State government to South Western Railway.

Key Facts:

  • About 1,430 acres have been identified for acquisition for the route, but acquisition has been delayed in some patches and compensation for farmers has yet to be distributed.
  • The proposed Belagavi-Parkanatti-Gokak-Yadwad railway line is important for industrial development of the region, with several cement industries and sugar factories operating in the area.

MP Shettar has instructed railway officials to submit a fresh proposal to the Railway Board based on public and industrial demand and has offered to take up the matter with the Railway Minister.

Other Railway Projects:

  • The long-pending demand for the Lokapura-Ramdurg-Savadatti-Dharwad line has been raised by the MP, with nearly two crore devotees visiting the Sri Renukadevi temple at Savadatti annually.
  • A survey for the route is proposed with an estimated survey cost of ₹70 lakh, requiring Railway Board approval.

MP Shettar has expressed concern over the slow pace of development works in Belagavi and Ghataprabha railway stations being upgraded under the PM Amrit Bharat Station scheme.

Future Railway Services:

  • Railway officials have informed the MP that services connected to Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Charlapalli will be operated from Belagavi.
  • A proposal for developing Sambra and Desur railway stations as alternative terminals to Belagavi Railway Station is being examined.
  • A train between Bengaluru and Mumbai via Belagavi is under consideration by the Railway Ministry and is expected to receive approval soon.

MP Shettar has urged the authorities to introduce a new Belagavi-Londa-Goa train service, as there has been a long-pending demand for improving regional connectivity.
