Breakthrough in Jammu Smart City Equipment Theft Case

Jammu, March 19: The Jammu Police have claimed to have cracked a theft case involving equipment from the Jammu Smart City, arresting two individuals and recovering 18 stolen batteries.

Case Background

According to a police spokesperson, batteries and other vital components were stolen from Smart city CCTV installations at prominent locations, including Asia Chowk, Bikram Chowk, and Amphalla Chowk, on February 28, 2026.

The theft had severely disrupted surveillance and traffic monitoring systems in several areas of the city.

Police Investigation

  • A case under sections 305 and 303(2) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar on FIR number 60/2026.
  • A dedicated police team, led by Inspector Jaipaul Sharma, SHO Gandhi Nagar, worked under the close supervision of SDPO South Kuljeet Singh and SP South Dr Ajay Sharma, with overall supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh.
  • The team comprised other officers, including PSIs Nadeem Akram, Arun Thakyal, ASI Pintoo Kumar, and SPO Rashpaul Kumar.

Arrests and Recovery

The police spokesperson said that during sustained questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime and on this disclosure, the stolen 18 batteries were recovered to restore the Smart City Surveillance network.

The arrested individuals were identified as Himanshu Gill alias Badaa Prince and his associate Prince Sharma.

Further Investigation

According to the police spokesperson, one of the accused, Himanshu Gill, is a habitual offender with multiple cases registered against him across various police stations in Jammu and adjoining districts.

Further investigation has been set into motion to identify additional associates, if any, to recover the remaining stolen property.
