The Senior Congress leader, and soon to be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, D.K. Shivakumar, will take oath at Glass House in Lok Bhavan, in Bengaluru, on June 3.
Beginning his political career as a student leader, D K Shivakumar's four-decade journey has been defined by challenges, victories and unwavering loyalty to the Congress.
The 64-year-old leader has strongly emerged as the Congress party's foremost Vokkaliga (influential agrarian communities) face in the state.
Shivakumar served as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Siddaramaiah government.
Soon to be India's richest Chief Minister
In terms of wealth, once sworn-in as CM, Shivakumar stands ahead of Andhra Pradesh's N Chandrababu Naidu (Rs 931 cr) and Tamil Nadu's C Joseph Vijay (Rs 648 cr).
According to his official election affidavit, Shivakumar has a declared family total net worth of Rs 1,413 crore, including movable assets worth Rs 1,140 crore and immovable properties valued at Rs 273 crore, against liabilities of about Rs 265 crore.
Shivakumar owned one registered vehicle, a Toyota Qualis, along with luxury watches from brands such as Rolex and Hublot, besides holdings in gold and silver, the affidavit said.
His personal assets were valued at Rs 1,214.93 crore, including movable assets worth Rs 251.69 crore and immovable properties worth Rs 972.65 crore.
According to the affidavit, he and his wife jointly own agricultural land worth nearly Rs 30 crore.
Started as a student leader, his first test came in 1985. Congress fielded him against HD Deve Gowda, one of Janata Dal's most powerful figures, at Sathanur. He lost narrowly.
He won a seat in the Bengaluru Rural zilla panchayat in 1987, and later in 1989, he won the Sathanur Assembly seat for the first time.
In the 2013, under the Siddaramaiah government, Shivakumar served as Karnataka’s Energy Minister. He led Congress's 2023 Karnataka campaign from the front, winning his own seat with a 75 per cent vote share.
